Meeting Notes October 2018

On October 7th we welcomed Mark Hutchinson for the first time as our Minister.  Mark took an interesting and many sided look around the subject of community. In the course of the Service he presented each of us with three questions that he hopes we will respond to when we have given them enough thought:

1. As a Minister what do you want from me?
2. As a Minister what do you expect from me?
3. In the wider community what aspects do you want me to act in and speak about?

In Swindon on October 21st Camila Garces-Bovett’s Chalice lighting welcomed all, and specifically, newcomers and those we have never met, wording which proved unexpectedly appropriate. Her Reflection, on the theme of ‘Enough’ drew on readings from different sources illustrating how challenging this word can be in real situations. Am I enough? Is what I can offer enough? What is enough? Following encouragement that “in small ways we make a big impact ,,, every act of loving kindness fills the universe.” we had a moment of meditation with a piece by Einaudi.

Jean Macmaster then opened our discussion on the last Unit of David Usher’s Life Spirit by asking us to give a one word or phrase reaction to the book. Enlightenment, Stocktaking, Deep questions clearly stated and discussed were just three. These proved a fruitful starting point for an interesting exchange of views and ideas.
